Key Places - Argentina
Andes to Salt Flats
Salinas Grandes
The Salinas Grandes are accessed via dramatic mountain switch back road. Once a high altitude lake, Northern Argentina’s giant salt plain is a stunning white expanse of 8,290 km² that spreads as far as the eye can see – bring your sunglasses! The vast glistening plain set against clear blue skies is a sight to behold. Square pools cut into the crust with newly formed crystals are a marked contrast.
Local artisans sell all manner of carved and crafted salt goods from Llama to cacti.

"Even before I signed up for this trip, I had to ask myself ... What the hell's a Puna? I learned that it's a unique plateau in the Andes mountains...."
