Before booking your holiday with us, please check the status of your chosen tour. We strongly advise against booking any flights or making other travel arrangements until the tour is marked as Guaranteed.
To confirm your place, simply pay the deposit. This deposit can be refunded at any time until the tour status changes to "Guaranteed". Your final balance will be due 56 days before the tour start date.
When you book, you are agreeing to our booking conditions – please take a moment to read them in full.
Each tour requires a minimum number of participants to go ahead. As bookings come in, the status will update from Available, to 2 More to Guarantee, and finally to Guaranteed once the minimum is met. You can always check the current status on the ‘Dates and Prices’ section of the tour page.

🧳 Arrival & Transfers
Airport transfer is included on Day 1.
No matter what time you arrive, you and your luggage will be transferred to the joining hotel.
If you arrive before midday, your room may not be immediately available, and you may need to wait while it’s being prepared.
🗓️ Arriving Early / Staying On
For those arriving early or staying later than our tour dates, we are happy to assist with extra nights at the tour accommodation and additional airport transfers for an additional cost.
If you are considering independent travel before or after the tour, you should be aware of the following requirements:
Registering with the authorities
You must register with the local district OVIR (Department of Foreign Travel and Exit) within 3 days of your arrival. Saturdays and Sundays count as part of the 3-day period. If you travel to another city and plan to stay for longer than 3 days there, you’ll need to register again.
If you’re staying at a hotel, the staff will register you. If you’re staying in a private house, your host should register you with their local district OVIR or on the electronic registration system, Emehmon. Tourist tax is usually included in the hotel bill, and private hosts pay the tourist tax on behalf of the guest.
If you’re travelling in Uzbekistan in a camper van or staying in tents and camping, you must register yourself. Register online through the electronic registration system, Emehmon, within 3 days of arrival. When registering online, you’ll have to pay a tourist tax charge for each day of your stay. At the moment you can only pay the tourist tax online with an Uzbek debit card in local currency.
The authorities will require a full record of where you’ve been in Uzbekistan upon departure. If you are unable to account for your whereabouts, or fail to get registered, you could get a fine for each day that is missing or late and possibly be deported.
🕌 Optional Khiva Extension
If you're joining the Khiva extension, we recommend booking a multi-destination flight as follows:
Inbound: Tashkent
Outbound: Urgench (the closest airport to Khiva)
Websites like kayak.com and opodo.co.uk can help you arrange this type of itinerary.
Please note: International flights and the internal flight to Khiva are not included in the tour price.
💱 Currency Exchange
Uzbek Currency
The local currency in Uzbekistan is the Uzbekistani Som (UZS). All purchases must be made in som—foreign currencies are not accepted in shops, restaurants, or hotels.
What to Bring
We recommend bringing:
-
Around £200 / $270 in your local currency for exchange
-
A Visa or Mastercard debit/credit card for ATM access and backup
Travelers from the UK, EU, US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand should bring USD or Euros, as these are widely accepted and offer the best exchange options in Uzbekistan.
Where to Exchange
You can exchange money or withdraw cash on arrival at Tashkent International Airport.
-
Exchange a small amount at the airport for immediate expenses
-
Better rates can be found at licensed exchange offices and ATMs in the city
✔ Your redspokes guide will assist you with locating trustworthy exchange services and ATMs throughout the tour.
💸 Spending Money
Spending will depend on your personal preferences for meals, drinks, and souvenirs, but we estimate that £200 / $270 is more than sufficient for the 14-day tour.
Typical Costs in Uzbekistan
Item | Price in UZS | Approx. GBP |
---|---|---|
Mid-range meal | 150,000–300,000 UZS | £9–£18 |

💁♂️ Staff Tipping
Tipping is a valued way to show appreciation for your local guides and support crew. While it’s not mandatory, it is encouraged when the service has been excellent.
How to Tip
We recommend tipping as a group at the end of the tour. The total is collected and given to your guide, who will fairly distribute it among the team.
Suggested Amount
💷 £60–£80 per person
💵 $80–$100 equivalent
Note: Tips are not part of wages. redspokes ensures all staff are paid fairly. Tipping is simply a personal gesture of thanks for great service.
🚲 Bike Hire
Want to hire a bike for the tour? This can usually be arranged at an additional cost.
You'll have the chance to request this during booking or by emailing us later (subject to availability).
🛏️ Single Room Supplement
Prefer your own space? Most of our tours offer a single room option for an extra charge.
You can request this when booking or later on—just get in touch.
🏨 Extra Accommodation
Arriving early or staying longer? We can help arrange additional hotel nights before or after your trip.
🚐 Airport Transfers
Need transport to or from the airport outside of the tour dates? Let us know—we're happy to help coordinate this for an added fee.
You’ll have the full support of a back-up vehicle throughout the tour — either a jeep or a bus — providing peace of mind as you ride. The support vehicle will:
Transport your main luggage between overnight stops
Offer a lift if you need a break from cycling
Stop roughly every 12 miles (20 km) to offer assistance and refreshments
Our tour leaders carry a comprehensive tool kit and will assist with common bike issues. All you’ll need to carry is a small daypack for essentials like a camera, snacks, or a light jacket.
If you're bringing your own bike, please make sure it’s in good working condition before the tour. We strongly recommend a full service by a professional bike shop prior to travel, as we can't guarantee we'll have the parts or tools for every possible repair.
Your comfort and safety on the road are our priority — whether you're riding or taking a breather in the van.
For this tour, we provide Giant Talon 3 mountain bikes in a full range of sizes. Most bikes are new for this season and are regularly maintained for top performance.
🔧 What’s Included:
Suspension forks for added comfort
Flat pedals (you can bring your own SPD/clip-in pedals if preferred)
One water bottle cage
Spare parts (tubes, tyres, chains, etc.)
A support vehicle carrying:
🔹 Tool kit
🔹 Track pump
🔹 Essential spares
🧰 Bring Your Own:
🚴 Cycle helmet – mandatory (not included or available to hire locally)
🥾 Cycling shoes & cleats (if using SPD pedals)
🚲 Your own saddle (optional)
🛠️ Small repair kit (optional, but useful if you're comfortable with minor fixes)
⚠️ Important:
Wearing a helmet is mandatory on all redspokes tours. Not wearing one is done at your own risk and may invalidate your travel insurance.
If you’re bringing your own bike on tour, it’s essential that it’s in excellent working condition before departure.

Major Languages: Uzbek, Russian, Tajik
Major Religion: Islam (predominantly Sunni)
Currency: Uzbek Som
Life Expectancy: 68 years (men), 74 years (women)
🤝 Cultural Etiquette & Behaviour
👋 Greetings & Social Interaction
A handshake is common between men, often accompanied by a hand over the heart.
When greeting a woman, a nod or placing your hand over your chest is more appropriate unless she initiates a handshake.
Elders are highly respected — greet them first and use polite language.
👗 Dress Code
Modesty is important. Both men and women should avoid revealing clothing.
Women should cover shoulders and knees, especially in rural areas and religious sites.
Men should avoid wearing shorts in traditional areas.
🕌 Religious Customs
Islam is the main religion, but Uzbekistan is largely secular.
During Ramadan, be respectful if people are fasting — avoid eating, drinking, or smoking in public during daylight hours.
Remove your shoes before entering mosques or private homes.
Do not point your feet at people or religious objects.
🥘 Dining & Hospitality
Guests are treated with great respect — expect to be offered tea or food when visiting someone’s home.
Always accept tea, even if you don’t plan to drink much — refusing can be considered impolite.
Meals begin only once the eldest or most honoured guest starts.
Bread (patyr) is sacred — don’t place it upside down or discard it.
📷 Photography
Always ask permission before photographing people, especially in rural areas.
Avoid taking photos near military buildings, border posts, or airports.
💬 Language Tips
Russian is widely spoken in cities; Uzbek is the national language.
Learning a few basic words or greetings in Uzbek (or Russian) will be warmly received:
